This vintage Adlake railroad padlock was manufactured by Adams & Westlake Co. (Adlake), a well-known maker of railroad and transit hardware. The lock is marked “FRISCO” on the back, identifying its association with the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, commonly known as the Frisco.
The heavy-duty lock features a rugged cast iron/steel body, a raised center keyway or dust-cover housing, and an attached security chain. The back is also stamped with PAT. 2040482, referring to a patent issued in 1936 for this Adlake railroad lock design. Similar examples were used to secure railway switches, signals, gates, toolboxes, and other railroad property.
Measuring approximately 3.5 inches high including the shackle by 3 inches wide, this substantial piece of railroadiana has a distinctive industrial appearance and makes an interesting collectible for railroad and transportation enthusiasts.
Perfect for: railroadiana collectors, Adlake enthusiasts, Frisco memorabilia collectors, antique and vintage hardware collectors, and fans of American railroad history.
