A genuine Ancient Roman key ring, dating from the 1st to 3rd century A.D., made of durable metal and worn as both a functional key and a symbol of status and protection. Roman citizens, especially the wealthy, wore keys on their fingers since their togas had no pockets—combining utility with social identity.

History
These rings were practical tools used to unlock strongboxes, but they also served as amulets, thought to protect the wearer and assert authority over their home. This surviving piece offers a glimpse into the personal lives and values of ancient Roman society.
