This outstanding German World War II M40 Luftschutz helmet is a remarkably complete example retaining its original Q66 shell stamp and lot number 31423 stamped at the rim. The helmet is fitted with its complete original liner, marked size 57, along with its original chinstrap, making it an exceptionally desirable and well-preserved example. The Luftschutz decal remains approximately 85-90% intact, exhibiting only a minor area of wear to the upper right while maintaining outstanding display appeal. The shell retains excellent original finish with crisp, visible markings throughout, resulting in a helmet that displays exactly as collectors hope to find.

The Luftschutz, or Air Protection organization, served a critical role within Germany's civil defense system during the Second World War. Members were responsible for air raid protection, firefighting assistance, rescue operations, and the safeguarding of civilians during Allied bombing campaigns. Their distinctive blue-gray helmets bearing the Luftschutz insignia have become some of the most recognizable pieces of German civil defense equipment from the period. Complete examples retaining strong decals, original liners, chinstraps, and clearly identifiable maker and lot markings have become increasingly sought after by collectors as untouched examples continue to become scarcer.

With its highly preserved decal, complete original interior, clearly stamped Q66 shell, and matching lot number, this helmet represents an outstanding example of German Luftschutz equipment. It offers exceptional display presence while retaining all of the characteristics advanced collectors seek in original Luftschutz helmets.
