An incredibly rare and historically rich French Model 1767 Briquet cutlass from the pre-revolutionary monarchy, this sword bears the engraved signature "E. Nordhausen 1794" on the guard and a blade maker's mark from "Deselsars Marchand fourbisseur … la Tête Noire Rue Merciere … Lyon."
Though the scabbard has been lost to time, the sword remains a uniquely complete example. This model was commonly used by French infantry and naval units during the late 18th century and into the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars.
The pairing of a later guard with an older blade suggests prolonged use and potential re-arming, which was common in wartime. The sword's markings link it to a specific craftsman and location, adding significant research and collector value.
