This is an original German 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross II Class (Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz II. Klasse), complete with its original ribbon. The 1939 Clasp was authorized at the outbreak of World War II for wear by veterans who had already earned the 1914 Iron Cross II Class during World War I, allowing them to display renewed combat recognition without replacing their earlier award. The clasp was worn on the field ribbon of the 1914 medal or on the tunic ribbon bar.
This example displays crisp detail to the central eagle and swastika device, with strong relief and well-defined edges throughout the clasp. The “1939” date is clearly present below the national emblem, and the crossbar and pin assembly are intact. It is accompanied by its correct rib-and-field colored ribbon, showing honest patina and appropriate softness consistent with period wear. This clasp represents an authentic and historically important example of WWII German military decoration, well suited for collectors of wartime awards and federal re-issue clasps.
