This exceptional German Saxony Model 1867 Infantry Officer’s Sword is a beautifully preserved example of late-19th-century German officer weaponry. The sword features an intricately decorated brass hilt with a folding guard bearing the royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of Saxony. The grip is covered in fishskin and wrapped with brass twist wire, all fully intact and in excellent condition. The engraved blade bears the maker’s mark GEISSLER & HAST, DRESDEN, along with EISENHAUER GARANTIRT and a WK&C stamp, reflecting high-quality Solingen steel production.
The Model 1867 pattern was adopted during a period of military modernization within the German states prior to unification, and Saxon officer swords are especially prized due to their distinctive heraldry and refined craftsmanship. The sword retains its original steel scabbard and is accompanied by a striking black and silver officer’s portepee with interposed green stitching, a detail sometimes associated with police or administrative service.
With no loss to the grip, crisp blade markings, and excellent overall condition, this sword represents a superb example of German officer arms from the Imperial era. Highly displayable and historically rich, it appeals equally to collectors of edged weapons, Imperial German militaria, and Saxon state artifacts.
