This is a German World War I-era Imperial Commemorative Flyer’s Badge, issued by the Kingdom of Prussia to retired flight personnel of the German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte). Reserved exclusively for aviators who had completed active duty, this badge honored their contribution to Germany’s burgeoning military aviation corps during the First World War.

The design features the classic Prussian flying eagle in dynamic relief, wings outstretched and clutching a swastika, a symbol associated with good fortune during the era, framed by a detailed laurel and oak wreath. Constructed from silvered metal, this example retains crisp detailing and a pleasing patina.

Importantly, this badge displays a proper hollow-back construction, loop clasp, and maker’s mark with “925” silver content stamp, all of which authenticate its originality. There are many fakes on the market, but few originals survive with correct markings, making this an especially rare and desirable variant.

Unlike the wartime qualification badges awarded during service, these commemorative badges were worn post-discharge, often on civilian dress uniforms, and signified both status and experience. Today, they remain prized artifacts from the dawn of military aviation.
