A rare and desirable private-purchase Iron Cross 1st Class (EK1) from World War I, featuring a concave two-piece screwback construction. The reverse of the silver frame is marked "800", indicating 80% silver content, and includes a large domed screwback disc for uniform attachment.

The iron core retains its black painted finish with wear consistent with age. By its age it's presumed to have been awarded retroactively after the 31st of May 1924.

Issued to recognize individual bravery and military leadership, this version of the EK1 was worn on the tunic without ribbon. Private-purchase examples like this were often of higher quality than standard issues, sometimes featuring precious metals and customized fittings. The concave shape and screwback attachment indicate officer-level customization, and its rarity is further enhanced by the silver mark and construction style typical of high-end WWI awards.
