An exceptional and very rare German WWII Heer senior officer cape, or Umhang, privately purchased and tailored by Carl Aug. Wolff of Frankfurt am Main. Dated 1944, this is a high-quality officer garment that survives in remarkably preserved, near-mint condition.

The cape features the classic five-button front closure associated with officer walking-out and dress wear. Unlike standard field-issued garments, capes of this type were optional private-purchase uniform pieces, commissioned by officers from civilian tailoring firms and produced in finer materials than ordinary issue clothing.

This example retains its Carl Aug. Wolff, Frankfurt tailor label along with a difficult-to-read handwritten name inscription that appears to begin with "Genl.", though the full name has not yet been positively identified. A second small label appears to read "M.L Ruiens" or similar. Additional research may be able to identify the original owner, adding even more interest to an already impressive piece.

The condition is particularly noteworthy. Original wool capes are often heavily affected by moth damage, storage deterioration, and dry rot. This example remains exceptionally clean with no visible moth holes, strong stitching, and its original silk/rayon partial lining intact.
