This pair of shoulder boards represents the rank of Oberleutnant (First Lieutenant) within the elite Feldherrnhalle Infantry formation of the German Army. Constructed of field-grey wool with white infantry piping and bordered in silver-grey rayon tress, each board bears a gilt rank pip and the distinctive Feldherrnhalle cypher, both iconic and sought-after by collectors. The backs remain intact with correct buttonhole straps and period stitching, showing only minimal age toning.
The Feldherrnhalle unit was composed of select SA veterans and earned a reputation for elite service and loyalty to the regime. Formed with direct ties to early Nazi ceremonial units, the Feldherrnhalle Infantry served on multiple fronts and enjoyed special recognition, with their insignia produced in limited numbers. Surviving examples in this condition are notably scarce and stand apart from standard Heer officer insignia. A rare opportunity to acquire insignia from one of the most symbolically significant Heer units of the war. Ideal for curated displays, uniform restorations, or elite insignia portfolios.
Provenance:We were privileged to receive first right of refusal on an expansive and long-held Texas WWII veteran collection, assembled over a lifetime by a gentleman in his 80s who recently chose to part with his holdings in full. Opportunities to acquire intact collections of this depth and integrity are exceedingly rare, and we secured the collection in its entirety. Within it were exceptionally scarce and highly unusual pieces of German wartime memorabilia seldom encountered on the open market.
