These exceptionally rare German WW2 Infantry Officer (Leutnant) shoulder boards are a remarkable and highly desirable example, distinguished by the presence of the Hoch- und Deutschmeister-Kreuz, more commonly known as the Stalingrad Cross, affixed to both boards. The insignia measures approximately 25.0 x 33.25 mm and is die-stamped in silvered iron (magnetic) with original lacquered finish, displaying moderate wear consistent with age and service while remaining in very fine condition.
The Stalingrad Cross was an honorary insignia introduced in 1943 for the Reichsgrenadier-Division Hoch- und Deutschmeister, the reformed successor to the 44th Infantry Division, which was nearly annihilated during the Battle of Stalingrad. As such, insignia associated with this division are among the most historically poignant and scarce of the German Army. Shoulder boards retaining original Stalingrad Crosses are rarely encountered, particularly as matched pairs and with clear veteran bring-back provenance.
This set is a uniform-cut veteran bring-back, preserved with strong historical integrity and exceptional rarity. A centerpiece-level artifact for advanced collectors of Stalingrad-related material or elite Heer insignia.
