This is a beautiful example of a WWII-era Kriegsmarine gold bullion breast eagle worn on officer's navy-blue dress and duty tunics. The eagle is crisply hand-embroidered in golden-yellow thread, with outstretched wings and sharply defined swastika. The backing is deep navy wool, correct for naval issue. Threadwork remains tight, with some toning from age, and overall condition is excellent for its type.
The Kriegsmarine was the naval branch of the Wehrmacht, responsible for Germany's surface fleet, U-boat arm, and coastal defense during WWII. Gold-thread eagles like this were issued to naval officers and senior NCOs, typically sewn above the right breast pocket on formal service jackets. Their color and backing distinguished naval personnel from army or Luftwaffe troops, and surviving originals, especially from the officer corps, are increasingly scarce due to postwar souvenir gathering and uniform dismantling.
