An extraordinary German WWII Heer Nebeltruppen officer uniform grouping, consisting of three matching uniform pieces from the same Oberleutnant: his M36 officer field tunic, peaked visor cap, and 1939 overseas side cap.
Finding even one original Nebeltruppen uniform piece is difficult. Finding a three-piece grouping belonging to the same officer is an exceptional opportunity and gives a collector the foundation for a spectacular, historically accurate mannequin or gallery display.
The centerpiece is a beautiful M36 field-grey wool officer tunic with hand-embroidered silver aluminum-wire collar tabs incorporating the distinctive purple Nebeltruppen Waffenfarbe. The tunic carries an Iron Cross ribbon and a three-place ribbon bar representing the Iron Cross 2nd Class, War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords, and Eastern Front Medal. Two additional award loops remain on the tunic where decorations were once worn. The tunic survives in Near Mint condition.
Included with the tunic is the officer's Heer peaked visor cap, featuring the national eagle, cockade and oak-leaf wreath, dark green band, and the highly desirable purple piping associated with Nebeltruppen. It is stamped approximately Size 59 1/2.
Completing the grouping is a 1939-dated field-grey overseas cap, stamped Size 58, Berlin, retaining its machine-embroidered national insignia and distinctive purple soutache chevron.
The Nebeltruppen were specialist German Army troops associated with smoke, chemical-warfare capability, and the operation of the famous Nebelwerfer rocket-launcher systems. Their unusual branch color and specialized role make surviving uniform material especially desirable.
For someone looking for a German WWII uniform grouping that goes well beyond the ordinary infantry tunic, this is one of the most impressive sets in our current collection.
