Exceptional original German WWII Waffen-SS recruiting poster designed by renowned graphic artist Ottomar Anton around 1941. One of the most iconic Waffen-SS recruiting designs of the war, the poster features the profile of a helmeted SS soldier above the text:

"WAFFEN-SS / EINTRITT NACH VOLLENDETEM 17. LEBENSJAHR"

Translated, the wording states that entry into the Waffen-SS was open after completion of the seventeenth year of age. The powerful profile composition, stark military imagery, and runic insignia made this design one of the most widely reproduced SS posters of the period.

Anton was one of Germany's leading commercial and political illustrators of the era, and this image became among his most recognized wartime works. Some sources identify Klemens Behler, later a Knight's Cross recipient who served with the 23rd SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division "Nederland," as the model for the soldier depicted.

Original wartime examples of this poster are considerably scarcer than the many later reproductions that followed. This example has been professionally matted and framed for preservation and display.

Condition

Overall very good condition with period scuffing and minor age-related wear throughout. There is an approximately 1" tear at the lower center, along with evidence of historical folding from storage. The poster remains visually strong and displays extremely well.
