This German WWII War Merit Cross with Swords is an original die-struck zinc alloy award measuring approximately 49 mm, complete with its original ribbon and matching ribbon bar attached at the top of the ribbon. The obverse is embossed with the swastika, while the reverse bears the date 1939. The medal ring is unmarked, and the award remains in good condition, with some glue residue on the reverse from previous display mounting. Most importantly, the medal is attributed to the officer shown in the accompanying photographs, including images of the recipient and the award ceremony at which he received it.

The War Merit Cross with Swords was awarded for service and achievement connected to the German war effort under military or combat-related conditions. While the decoration itself is a recognized WWII award type, groupings that retain recipient photographs and ceremony images are far more compelling because they connect the medal to an identifiable wartime moment. Photographic association transforms a standard award into a personal historical artifact, preserving the human context behind the decoration.

This is a much stronger lot than a loose War Merit Cross alone. The original ribbon, attached ribbon bar, recipient attribution, and award ceremony photographs create a highly displayable and research-worthy grouping for collectors of German awards, named material, and wartime photographic documentation.

Provenance: Attributed to the officer shown in the included recipient and award ceremony photographs.
