Historically significant German World War I wound badge grouping consisting of a private purchase Black Wound Badge accompanied by its rare original named award document. Identified award groupings from the Imperial German period remain especially desirable, offering both the physical decoration and direct documentation linking the award to an individual soldier’s wartime service.

Included is a finely preserved Black Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen), the class awarded to soldiers wounded one to two times during military service. Accompanying the badge is the original award certificate issued to Gefreiter Franz Olvand, born January 29, 1895. The translated document reads in part: “Certificate of possession. In the name of His Majesty the Emperor and the King... the badge for the wounded has been awarded.” The document was issued through the Royal District Command, Göttingen, 1918, and bears the signature of an Oberstleutnant.

The combination of a named wartime wound award with original documentation creates a compelling personal historical grouping, directly connecting the decoration to an identifiable German soldier of the First World War. Original award documents of this type are increasingly difficult to find paired with their corresponding decorations.
