German WWI Leaf Camouflage Steel Helmet | RIR 120 Marked | Veteran Iron Cross Paint | RARE!

An exceptional German World War I steel helmet featuring a rare and highly distinctive leaf camouflage pattern applied over an earlier camouflage finish. The layered paint gives the helmet tremendous battlefield character and makes it far more visually striking than a standard Great War shell.

The interior is marked "120," attributed to Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 120, and the helmet retains its liner. The chinstrap is absent. Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 120 served on the Western Front during the First World War and was associated with the 52nd Reserve Infantry Brigade within the XIV Reserve Corps. Elements of the regiment were present in the Meuse-Argonne fighting during the closing months of the war in 1918.

Adding even more personality to the piece, the veteran who retained the helmet after the war painted a representation of his 1918 Iron Cross on the front as a personal reminder of his service. Combined with the unusual leaf camouflage, regiment marking, surviving liner, and veteran-applied decoration, this is a helmet with tremendous visual presence and historical character.
