German World War II Allgemeine-SS M43 field or mountain cap attributed to enlisted man / NCO use, executed in black wool construction in the recognizable late-war M43 pattern. This style of field cap became one of the most iconic forms of German wartime headgear, widely associated with field service and valued today for its unmistakable profile and strong collector appeal.

This example is missing both the Totenkopf (skull) insignia patch and the original Jäger (hunter) insignia, noted as having been removed in a de-Nazification context at the end of the war. Adding further interest, the cap is now accompanied by a period Edelweiss metal insignia, included loose with the piece rather than attached. This period addition complements the cap’s wartime history and enhances its already impressive display appeal.

The cap carries documented provenance from the Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection (2020), adding notable institutional collection history and additional collector desirability.

Highlights
• German WWII Allgemeine-SS M43 field / mountain cap
• EM / NCO configuration
• Includes period Edelweiss insignia (loose, not attached)
• Provenance: Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection (2020)

Condition
The cap displays age, wear, and handling consistent with wartime textile military headgear and long-term preservation. As noted, the Totenkopf and original Jäger insignia are no longer present, leaving the cap in its preserved de-Nazified state. The included Edelweiss insignia is not currently affixed. General age-related wear consistent with period use and storage should be expected throughout.

A historically compelling German wartime headgear example with museum provenance, preserved wartime character, and enhanced collector appeal through its accompanying period insignia.
