This extremely rare German WWII DRK (Deutsches Rotes Kreuz) sleeve triangle, designated for the Limburg district, is an original period example of the Hoheitsabzeichen Armdreieck introduced under the January 1938 uniform regulations. These insignia were worn on the upper right sleeve of service tunics and greatcoats by salaried German Red Cross personnel, denoting both national affiliation and assigned district.
The triangle is constructed of woven grey rayon with a machine-woven stylized national eagle featuring down-swept wings clutching a wreathed, canted swastika, executed in silver-grey thread. Beneath the eagle is the machine-woven district designation “Limburg,” also in silver-grey thread. The triangular base is finished with a fine woven silver-grey border stripe and retains its charcoal grey wool backing, machine stitched in the correct zig-zag pattern typical of wartime manufacture.
DRK district sleeve triangles are notoriously scarce, especially named examples in well-preserved condition, as many were removed or discarded at war’s end. This example represents a seldom-seen piece of WWII-era German humanitarian service insignia and is a strong addition for advanced collectors of Third Reich uniforms, DRK material, or regional insignia.
Provenance:
Veteran bring-back from Germany, retained post-war and preserved in private hands.
