This German World War II Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK) Red Cross Personnel Stahlhelm is a fascinating and scarce double decal example repurposed from an M34-style helmet originally intended for civil defense or fire protection service use. Constructed of steel with its characteristic M34 profile, the helmet retains an attractive olive-drab finish and features the distinctive dual seven-hole ventilation clusters to each side. The left side displays a beautifully preserved painted DRK shield decal featuring the Red Cross eagle above the unit designation "No. 24", while the right side bears the matching Geneva Cross shield decal, likewise marked "No. 24". Both decals are exceptionally well-preserved and display with remarkable clarity, making this one of the finer examples of this very uncommon helmet type we have encountered.

The interior retains its leather liner and chinstrap assembly and is particularly interesting due to the surviving unit attribution on the rear skirt reading "NO 24 FELDLAZARETT ST. MARIAE", identifying the helmet to a field hospital designation. A faint triangular stamp is also present on the rear skirt, although its details are now too faint to decipher. Unlike many German helmets, this example is absent of visible maker and lot markings, yet retains an interior "ACHTUNG" medical warning label affixed to the dome. The label translates roughly to a warning regarding facial and orbital fractures and advises consultation with a physician. While the liner is in excellent condition, it is likely a later addition rather than an original wartime feature.

The Deutsches Rotes Kreuz served a critical role within the German wartime medical system, operating hospitals, field stations, transport services, and casualty care facilities throughout the conflict. Helmets specifically attributed to DRK personnel are encountered far less frequently than standard military combat helmets, and examples bearing both unit designations and field hospital markings are particularly desirable. The combination of matching double decals, clear field hospital attribution, surviving liner and chinstrap, and intriguing interior markings elevates this piece far beyond a standard M34 helmet.

We have handled very few DRK helmets with these varying degrees of detail and attribution. The crisp No. 24 decals, rear skirt inscription, surviving medical warning label, and overall presentation make this an exceptionally interesting display piece and research opportunity. Whether acquired for a specialized German medical collection, DRK display, or advanced helmet collection, this scarce field hospital-attributed example stands out as one of the more unusual and visually appealing German helmets in our sale.
