This extremely rare Luftwaffe Retired Pilot Commemorative Badge (Flieger-Erinnerungsabzeichen) is a solid-back example produced by C.E. Juncker of Berlin, one of the most respected manufacturers of German aviation awards. The badge is die-struck in tombak with a silvered finish and black burnishing, displaying the distinctive design of an eagle with folded wings perched on a boulder, encircled by an oakleaf wreath.

The reverse retains its correct Juncker-style hardware, including a soldered barrel hinge, round wire pin, and catch, all intact and consistent with wartime production.

Unlike standard qualification badges, this award was issued to Luftwaffe personnel upon honorable retirement from flying duties, marking the conclusion of an airman’s operational career. Issued in significantly smaller numbers, it holds a unique place among Luftwaffe decorations. The folded-wing eagle motif further distinguishes it from all other flight badges.

Juncker-marked examples are among the rarest of all Luftwaffe awards and are seldom encountered on the market. This piece represents a top-tier aviation collectible with strong historical significance and excellent display presence.

Provenance: Acquired from a 30-year private collector of WWII memorabilia based in Texas.
