A historically significant German WWII Schutzmannschaft auxiliary police cap insignia, preserved as a veteran souvenir and cut from the original cap.
The round woven badge features a central swastika surrounded by an oak or laurel-style wreath. Insignia of this type was used by Schutzmannschaft auxiliary and security police formations operating in German-occupied eastern territories.
The Schutzmannschaft served under the German Order Police system and carried out security and anti-partisan duties. A number of these units also participated in the persecution and murder of Jewish civilians during the Holocaust, making surviving insignia a sober artifact of occupation and collaboration during World War II.
This example was veteran cut from a cap and remains in Near Mint condition.
