This impressive Spanish sword dated 1792 features an exceptionally well-marked blade, displaying a dense array of inscriptions and symbols that enhance both its research value and visual impact. Beginning at the base near the hilt, the blade bears an L marking followed by a D, a sequence of four impression dots, a T topped with a degree-like symbol, and the clearly struck date 1792, followed by another set of four impressions arranged in a diamond formation. The reverse side displays a crowned R marking, additional impression dots, a C with a raised S subtext and terminal period, as well as an IV marking further up the blade, accompanied by additional dot impressions.
Spanish swords of the late 18th century are renowned for their quality steel and detailed blade markings, which often indicate makers, inspectors, royal ownership, or arsenal acceptance. The presence of multiple stamped symbols and crowned motifs suggests official production and inspection, offering valuable insight into Spanish military manufacturing practices during this period. Dated blades from this era are especially important, as they provide firm historical anchoring for collectors and researchers alike.
Heavily marked Spanish swords with clear dates and multiple inspection stamps are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in legible and well-preserved condition. This sword stands as a compelling study piece and display weapon, combining historical depth with striking visual complexity, and represents an outstanding opportunity for collectors of European military arms.
