This gorgeous Prussian Model 1898 cavalry saber features a fantastic triple-engraved blade associated with Leib-Dragoner Regiment II Großherzoglich Hessisches Nr. 24, a cavalry regiment of the Grand Ducal Hessian Army active from 1859 to 1919. The blade decoration includes an entire cavalry charge scene, giving the saber exceptional visual appeal. The opposite side of the blade is marked GES. GESCH., indicating protected design or registered pattern. The saber is accompanied by a gorgeous gold and red striped portepee, and the metal scabbard retains more than 90 percent of its original black paint.
Imperial German cavalry sabers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were both service weapons and powerful expressions of regimental pride. Triple-etched blades with cavalry scenes, unit identification, and patriotic or military decoration were often privately purchased or specially ordered by soldiers and officers to commemorate service. The Leib-Dragoner Regiment Nr. 24 carried the prestige of Grand Ducal Hessian service, and decorated examples tied to specific units are especially desirable among collectors of Imperial German edged weapons.
With its Prussian Model 1898 form, Leib-Dragoner Regiment Nr. 24 association, triple-engraved blade, dramatic cavalry charge scene, GES. GESCH. marking, gold and red portepee, and scabbard retaining over 90 percent original black paint, this saber is a standout Imperial cavalry piece. It offers exceptional display presence and strong appeal for advanced collectors of German cavalry swords and regimental edged weapons.
