An original Regio Esercito (Royal Army) vehicle identification badge, mounted for display on a shaped wooden plaque. The circular emblem features a cogwheel edge design, with the fasces of the Fascist Militia on the left and a five-pointed star of the Italian Army on the right, underscored by the marking “Ro. Eto.” (for Regio Esercito). This example is constructed in brass rather than the more commonly encountered aluminum or zinc variants, and measures approximately 12.5 cm (125mm) in diameter. The reverse retains its original post-holes, which were designed to accept screws for fastening to a vehicle grille or armored surface.
The Regio Esercito (Royal Army) was one of the largest ground forces engaged during the Second World War. It was among the early adopters of paratrooper units, special forces formations, and massed armored operations. Many Italian divisions were reinforced by a MVSN Gruppo di Assalto, typically composed of two battalions, reflecting the structural organization and integration of Fascist militia elements within the regular army during the period. Vehicle badges such as this served as official identification markers for Italian Army motor vehicles in both domestic and combat theaters.
Now mounted for presentation, this example offers strong visual impact while preserving its original mounting features on the reverse. A well-defined and historically representative World War II Italian military vehicle insignia display piece, suitable for collectors of Axis militaria or European WWII armored and motorized unit artifacts.
