The Japanese Rising Sun Medal, 7th Class, is housed in its original black lacquered wooden case, complete with silver “square” script-style kanji typical of late 1930s-1960s production. This example showcases an authentic piece awarded to recipients for distinguished service in areas such as cultural promotion, welfare advancements, and environmental preservation.

Acquired from the Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection in 2020, the medal is a fascinating relic of Japan’s cultural and military history during and after WW2.

Established by Emperor Meiji in 1875, the Order of the Rising Sun symbolizes achievement and merit. Its long history spans from Japan’s early modernization to its involvement in WW2. This piece represents not just the recipient's contribution but Japan’s evolving global presence over decades.
