This impressive medieval sword dates between 1250-1350 and is consistent with Oakeshott Type XIIa or XVI, both of which were commonly used during the late High Middle Ages across Europe. It features a classic Brazil nut pommel, Style A, and a Style 6 crossguard, both characteristics of knightly arming swords of the Crusader and post-Crusade periods.

The blade, likely intended for powerful slashing attacks from horseback or ground, represents the martial evolution of the European longsword into an iconic knightly weapon. These swords were the preferred sidearms of mounted warriors, often associated with Crusaders, feudal knights, and the expanding use of professional retinues in 13th-14th century warfare. Their form reflects the transitional phase of European battlefield tactics, from chainmail to plate, and the growing need for weapons that could both thrust and deliver strong, cleaving blows.

A rarely encountered example with fine proportions and classic styling, this sword is both a martial relic and a superb display piece of museum caliber.
