This antique iron barrel-shaped padlock features a distinctive cylindrical body, curved shackle, and matching key. The dark, weathered iron has visible patina, pitting, and oxidation, giving the piece the character of an old mechanical lock. The locking system is known as a screw-key mechanism. Rather than simply turning in a conventional keyway, the hollow key is threaded onto an internal screw or threaded stud within the lock. As the key is turned, it engages the internal mechanism and releases the shackle. Screw-key padlocks are a distinctive historical form of mechanical lock found in various European traditions.
Measuring approximately 2 inches high including the shackle by 1.5 inches wide, this compact lock is an unusual example of early mechanical hardware. The lock is in working order.
Perfect for: antique padlock collectors, screw-key lock enthusiasts, historical hardware collectors, and those interested in unusual mechanical objects.
