This exceptional German WWII presentation award plaque is a highly personal and historically significant piece, inscribed by Oberst Hanns-Heinrich Lohmann of the Waffen SS. The plaque bears the original German inscription: "Meinem lb. Ptoffels - In Andenken - Oberst Lohmann", translated as "To my dear Ptoffels, in loving memory, Colonel Lohmann." The plaque features a powerful machine gunner combat motif, rendered with strong relief and careful detail, clearly intended as a personal presentation rather than a mass-issued award. The construction and inscription indicate a commemorative or honorific gift bestowed directly by Lohmann to a subordinate or close associate.

Hanns-Heinrich Lohmann (1911–1995) was one of the most decorated Waffen SS officers of the Second World War, awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with OakleavesGerman Cross in Gold, Iron Cross First and Second Class, and the Wound Badge. His career spanned the earliest expansion of the SS through some of the most intense fighting of the war. Lohmann served with SS Regiment Deutschland, later commanding units within the elite Wiking Division and 11th SS Division "Nordland". He led frontline formations during Operation Barbarossa, the Caucasus campaign, the retreat of Army Group A, combat in Italy and Croatia, and later defensive actions during the Siege of Leningrad and along the Narva front. His leadership during the retreat along the Leningrad–Narva Highway resulted in severe wounds and ultimately earned him the Knight's Cross, followed by the Oakleaves in February 1945 while serving with the III Germanic SS Panzer Corps.

Personalized presentation items directly inscribed by senior Waffen SS officers of Lohmann's stature are exceedingly rare, with most surviving examples held in institutional or advanced private collections. Unlike standard decorations, plaques such as this were privately commissioned and given in moments of personal significance, often tied to battlefield service, loss, or remembrance. This piece stands as a deeply intimate artifact of WWII command culture, combining direct attribution, elite unit association, and documented combat leadership at the highest levels. It represents a museum-grade opportunity for the advanced collector seeking a centerpiece relic with unquestionable historical gravity and provenance tied to one of the Third Reich's most decorated Panzer commanders.
