This impressive Imperial German or Prussian infantry artillery officer's sword is distinguished by its exceptionally rare triple-engraved blade, with rich decorative engraving on both faces and an additional engraved panel along the spine. The sword retains its original wrapped grip in excellent condition and is fitted with a stunning gold senior officer portapee that remains in fantastic shape. The guard displays crisp gold-accented motifs, and the sword is housed in its original leather scabbard, which is remarkably well preserved.
Imperial German officer swords were privately purchased and often elaborately engraved to reflect rank, service branch, and personal pride. Triple-engraved blades required significant additional labor and expense, making them far less common than standard engraved examples. Gold portapees were associated with senior officers and further elevate the status of such swords. Leather scabbards, especially in high condition, are particularly rare survivors.
Complete Imperial German officer swords featuring triple-engraved blades, original leather scabbards, and intact senior officer portapees are exceptionally difficult to acquire. This sword represents a high-water mark of Imperial German craftsmanship and officer prestige, offering collectors a museum-quality example with extraordinary visual and historical appeal.
