This is a rare and exceptional Heavy Cavalry Sabre (Palash-style) from the American Revolutionary War era, featuring a broad quill-tipped blade and an ornately decorated hilt with brass guard and bone inlays. Though the scabbard is absent, the sabre itself remains a commanding presence, with a well-aged patina and fine craftsmanship evident in every curve and flourish.
The quill tip, a flattened, spear-like point, was designed for both cutting and thrusting, making it a versatile weapon on horseback. The elegant, European-style hilt suggests that this was either imported for American officers or carried by a French cavalryman assisting in the war effort, particularly during campaigns following France's formal entry into the war in 1778. Pieces like this are scarce and highly desirable as they represent both the international dimension of the American Revolution and the brutality of 18th-century warfare.
