This original U.S. M1917 Remington bayonet features a 17-inch blade and includes its original green composite scabbard, with a total length of 22.25 inches. The blade is clearly marked “1917” with the Remington circle logo on the ricasso, opposite a U.S. ordnance “flaming bomb” and inspection markings. The blade retains a clean finish with honest wear, and the grips are original walnut, secured by two screws. The steel pommel and guard remain tight and serviceable. This example would have been reissued during WWII for use with the M1 Garand, a common practice due to bayonet shortages in the early war years.

Originally issued during World War I for use with the U.S. M1917 Enfield rifle, these long bayonets saw extended service life through WWII, particularly early on before the standardized 10" M1 bayonets became widespread. Many M1917 bayonets were adapted to fit the M1 Garand and issued to rear-echelon troops, engineers, and in some cases frontline infantry.

Remington was one of the primary manufacturers of M1917 bayonets, and their examples are among the most sought-after for their wartime provenance and quality. Bayonets like this, with matching scabbards and clear markings, are increasingly scarce!
