This WW1 Helmet Shell, likely of U.S. or British origin, features a rare camouflage pattern and unit flashes on both sides, one depicting a white figure with a flaming sword or gun, the other a helmet with an Indian feather. Note there is a notation inside the helmet of "72-308-11.635" possibly a location where the helmet was found or a museum notation. This helmet truly needs more research and could be a golden find for a knowledgeable buyer, making it worth much more than its listed range!
During WWI, soldiers customized their helmets with camouflage and painted insignia to reflect unit identity or battlefield roles. This helmet’s distinctive markings may indicate service in a specialized regiment or a division with unique heraldry, warranting further research.
Although missing its liner and chinstrap, which likely makes this a battlefield find, this helmet serves as an incredible relic and powerful reminder of the trench warfare of WWI. Helmets like this remain highly collectible, especially with rare original paint and identifiable markings.
