An original German World War II Model 1940 (M40) Heer combat helmet featuring an authentic field-applied tropical camouflage finish associated with Deutsches Afrikakorps and Mediterranean theater use. The shell was manufactured by Eisenhüttenwerke Thale and is stamped “ET64” with lot number “1221” to the rear skirt. The M40 model is recognized by its rolled edge and stamped ventilation ports, representing one of the most iconic helmet patterns of the Second World War.
The exterior retains an attractive mustard-tan camouflage finish applied directly over the original field-gray factory paint. Natural period wear throughout the shell reveals portions of the original finish and surviving Heer eagle decal beneath the camouflage layer. Approximately half of the decal remains visible with discernible detail, adding significant character and authenticity to the helmet’s wartime appearance.
