This is an original German WWII War Merit Cross 2nd Class with ribbon (Kriegsverdienstkreuz II. Klasse), instituted in 1939 and awarded for meritorious service during the Second World War. When issued with crossed swords, the award denotes service or merit rendered under combat conditions or in direct support of combat operations, setting it apart from non-combatant issues.

This example is of bronze construction, displaying crisp definition to the cross arms, central device, and the crossed swords positioned between the arms. The suspension ring is maker marked “75,” attributed to Julius Maurer of Oberstein, a scarcer wartime producer of this award. The surface shows a natural, mellowed patina consistent with age and period manufacture. The cross is accompanied by its correct riband-style ribbon. This is an authentic and desirable example of a WWII-era German military award, with added collector interest due to its less frequently encountered maker.
