A highly collectible and desirable example of a German World War II Model 1940 (M40) Single Decal Waffen-SS Combat Helmet. The M40 model is identifiable by its rolled edge and the ventilation hole being crimped directly into the shell, distinguishing it from the earlier M35 pattern. This helmet features the correct single Waffen-SS runes shield decal positioned on the wearer’s right side, consistent with the decal regulation changes introduced in 1940.
The helmet was manufactured by Quist (Q) in the desirable large shell size 64, clearly stamped “Q64” on the interior skirt. The lot number stamped beneath the size marking appears to read “N515”. The shell retains its original dark field gray-green finish with authentic light surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. The SS decal remains highly visible and is estimated to be approximately 90%+ intact, retaining strong detail to the twin black Sig runes against the white and silver shield background.
The interior remains complete with its original components, including the zinc-plated steel liner band and original perforated brown leather liner. The leather shows heavy drying, darkening, and minor cracking typical of antique combat helmets, including a partial tear to one of the rear liner tongues. Chinstrap bails remain present, though the original chinstrap is not included. Overall, this is an untouched and highly desirable wartime SS helmet with strong collector appeal.
